You are strongly urged to contact the appropriate consulate for details. Visit www.travel.state.gov for the U.S. State Department for the latest details about passports and visa requirements. IMPORTANT: We recommend that travelers take a photocopy of their passport and applicable visas. It should be packed separately from your actual passport and visa. *The northern lights are in the Northern Hemisphere from September through April and are only visible when the sky is clear and free of clouds. As this tour is weather dependent, sightings of the northern lights are not guaranteed.
Because the northern lights are a winter event, you will be walking and waiting outdoors while looking for them. It is recommended that you wear sturdy non-slip snow footwear and warm clothing including thermals, hat, scarf and gloves.
Outdoor activities and structures are weather dependent and may be unavailable or rescheduled. Outdoor activities in early November or April may vary depending on snowfall. If there is not enough snowfall, the husky safari will be substituted for a husky meet and greet and hike experience. The reindeer safari will be substituted with a horse drawn carriage northern lights search. The dog sledding activity requires you to be able to lower yourself into the sled.
***Glass igloos are equipped with only a private sink and toilet. A privacy curtain lines the base of the bedroom inside the igloo. Guests will have access to a public sauna house to use the shower in the morning. Overnights in igloos may be on the first night or last night at the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort.
Travel with an average of 16 people (maximum of 24).
Effective for travel in May 2025, all visitors who do not need a visa to enter Europe will be expected to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver, for a fee, when visiting a Schengen Area Country. To identify Schengen Area Countries and to complete the ETIAS application, please visit https://www.etiasvisa.com/
The overall activity level of this tour is a level 3. This means you’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days with early mornings or late nights balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.
Internal flights are required in order to participate on this tour and are included in the final price, quoted at time of booking.
**Finnish log cabins (small cabins) are equipped with 1 double bed, 1 bunk bed, a dining space, one bathroom (inclusive of sink, toilet and shower), private sauna and private fireplace (firewood not included).
Personal audio devices (headsets) are not included on this tour.
This tour is not wheelchair or stroller accessible due to Arctic terrain.
Travel Tips
Time Zone
Finland is 7 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. In Finland, the days are much shorter in winter, especially the farther north you travel to areas such as Lapland. The fewer daylight hours mean more opportunities to experience the northern lights. Please keep in mind that as they are a natural phenomenon, sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Electricity
When traveling to another country, you may need an adaptor and/or electric converter to plug your electrical devices and appliances into the local power grid. An adaptor changes the plug so it fits into the outlet. A converter changes the voltage coming out of the outlet. To determine what you need, first verify if the plugs on your devices fit the outlet of your destination. In Europe, the plug type is C, which has two round pins. If your plugs do not match this description, you will need an adaptor. Next, verify the voltage of each device you intend to bring. You can find this information on the cord, plug, or on the device itself. Many devices are dual-voltage. For those, you do not need a converter. If your device is not dual-voltage and it differs from the voltage of your destination, you will need a voltage converter. In Europe, the voltage is 220v-230v. If necessary, make sure to get a converter that converts to this voltage. If you plan to bring a sleep apnea machine, please remember to bring an extension cord along with the adaptor and voltage converter as not all hotels have sockets next to the bed.
Elevation
The highest elevation encountered on this tour is 1100 feet.

Buckle up, buttercups! Ready for a Lapland adventure? You’ve got questions, I’ve got answers!
Winter Wonderland Woes?
- Q: How cold IS it? A: Think polar bear popsicles! Seriously though, it depends on where and when. December to February? Expect -16°C to -3°C, but -30°C is possible! Pack accordingly (think thermal underwear, not bikinis!).
- Q: Is it dark ALL DAY? A: Near the Arctic Circle, the sun takes a long nap around December 21st. Further south, it peeks out for a bit each day. Think of it as a really long twilight—perfect for Northern Lights hunting!
- Q: Snow much snow? A: A LOT. Like, seriously, a lot. We’re talking up to 2 meters in some places! Bring your snow boots and your sense of humor.
- Q: When do the lakes freeze over? A: It varies, but Inari (Lapland’s biggest lake) typically freezes in November and thaws in early June. Southern lakes are later, obviously.
Other Lapland Lowdowns:
- Q: Is it eco-friendly to visit? A: Finland takes environmentalism seriously. Tons of Lapland is protected wilderness, and eco-tourism is a big deal. Choose responsible tours and operators, and you’ll be doing your part to keep Lapland lovely.
- Q: Northern Lights—when and where? A: Late August to April, under dark, clear skies. Consider a Northern Lights tour for the best chances of seeing the show!
- Q: Reindeer sightings? A: There are more reindeer than people! You’ll probably see them—especially if you book a reindeer ride.
- Q: Driving in Lapland? A: Summer? Pure daylight! Watch out for reindeer crossing the road! Winter? Snow tires are mandatory (November 1st to March 31st).
- Q: Dangerous animals? A: Relax! The animals are more afraid of you than you are of them. Keep your distance.
- Q: Drones? A: Absolutely!
- Q: Visa needed? A: Check your nationality, but most visitors don’t need one.
So there you have it! Now go book your trip! I’m ready for our Lapland adventure!
